Roger Gracie vs Marcus "Buchecha" Almeida
BJJ SUPER FIGHT!!!
Roger Gracie’s long awaited return to action in the kimono looks to be on the cards in October, with the decorated champion confirming a superfight match-up against Marcus ‘Buchecha’ Almeida could be on the cards.Gracie has been away from the jiu jitsu tatami since 2010, where he won gold in both his weight and absolute division at the IBJJF World Championships.
Buchecha has been going from strength to strength, claiming WPJJC champion status earlier in the year, before dethroning Rodolfo Vieira as the IBJJF World Champion. Many consider the Checkmat fighter to be the most likely candidate to submit Gracie – a feat no-one has achieved since the London based grappler has been a black belt.
Roger Gracie said: “There’s an opportunity to fight him (Buchecha) in October and I think it will be in the gi. It will be a superfight event, so there will be other names on the card – it will take place in LA.
“If it does take place, it’s going to be a 20 minute match, submission only to win. I have already been training hard since I got back to the UK as I haven’t even put a gi on in almost three months. I’m feeling it at the moment (laughs) so I’m just getting used to the grips and finding my speed. But, I love to fight in the gi more than anything else, so it’s exciting for me and I’ll be training hard now.”
