Alistair Overeem fails pre-fight drugs test, UFC 146 main event unlikely

The worst possible outcome for Dana White and the UFC leading into their heavyweight title fight has come to fruition.
Alistair Overeem (36-11 MMA, 1-0 UFC) now looks unlikely to fight title holder Junior Dos Santos (14-1 MMA, 8-0 UFC)  this summer following a failed drugs test which was initially reported by MMAJunkie.com.
Junior dos Santos, Frank Mir, Cain Velasquez, Roy Nelson and Antonio Silva were also tested for diuretics, masking agents, anabolic steroids and T/E ratios and all passed without issue.
Overeem’s initial sample was flagged for an elevated T/E ratio that exceeded 10-to-1, which cleared the 6-to-1 limit but the colossal heavyweight still has the right to have his other sample tested. It’s worth noting, however, that if this sample comes up clean it  then Overeem would be eligible to receive a fight license.
Overeem first ran into problems with the NSAC when he missed a drugs test that was enforced on him on the run up to UFC 141 after he returned to Holland to care for his sick mother.
He was awarded a license with the conditions that that he submitted a drugs test conducted by an accredited laboratory as well as pass a further drugs test upon arriving in America for UFC 141 and also submit two random tests.
Overeem will need to stand before the comission if he applies for a license to appear in the main event of UFC 146 which, given the circumstances, seems unlikely.
