The ADCC (Abu Dhabi Combat Club) Submission Wrestling World Championships is the world's premier grappling competition. Started in 1998 by Sheik Tahnoon Bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates, the competition is held every two years in a different location around the world and features the world's best in jiu-jitsu, wrestling, judo, sambo, and a variety of other mixed martial arts. In order to compete in this prestigious event athletes must earn their place at an ADCC National Trials tournament or receive a special invitation of recognition from the ADCC. Although there have been exceptions over the years, the event is traditionally won by Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners. Past champions include a who's who list of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu legends.
